History

Binchy’s Solicitors has provided legal services to the people of North Cork and South Limerick since James Binchy first founded the practice in Charleville in 1887. James was joined in the practice by his son, Owen, in 1914, giving the firm the name under which it continues to trade, James Binchy and Son Solicitors.

James Binchy and Son moved to its current location on the Main Street of Charleville in 1906.

James Binchy, grandson of the founder and father of current partner Owen Binchy, was admitted as a solicitor in 1945 and practiced within the firm until his death in 1996.

The solicitors currently practicing in the firm are Owen Binchy, Eimear Binchy and Patrick McDonnell. Owen Binchy is a great-grandson of the firm’s founder, James Binchy.
